Summer is the best time to have maintenance pumping done on your septic system. Onsite wastewater disposal systems need to have the sludge and scum (produced by bacterial action in the septic tank) removed periodically. When the bacterial action byproducts equal 1/4 to 1/3 of the tank volume, it should be cleaned out.
